The Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra will celebrate its fifth season under the direction of conductor Michael Neumann with a concerts series full of the high quality, spectacular music that the Folsom Region has grown to love.
On Saturday, September 27, 2008, Maestro Neumann has chosen to lead off the season featuring Anita Felix, violinist, performing the “Bruch Violin Concerto in g minor,” with orchestra. Also on the program will be ” Bacchanale” from Samson and Dalila by Saint-Saens, “In the Steppes of Central Asia” by Borodin, and selections from “Romeo and Juliet” by Prokofiev.
“As always, Maestro has programmed passionate and great works to fill our evening and our senses.” states Bruce Woodbury, President of the board of directors and founder of the symphony. Mr. Woodbury returns to his position as President of the organization after a brief hiatus.
The balance of this special season will bring two Holiday performances in December featuring the Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra with the Folsom Lake Civic Ballet and the Valley Choral Society. Selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet along with Holiday favorites will create the program for the Saturday evening and Sunday matinee performances on December 20 and 21, 2008.
On Valentine’s Evening, February 14, 2009, Maestro Michael Neumann and the Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra will create a special evening to enjoy and remember: “A Romantic Night in Old Vienna.” This new event will be held at the Folsom Community Center and will include dining, dancing and fundraising opportunities in support of the Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra. Under the baton of Michael Neumann, guests will enjoy works by Johann Strauss, including Die Fledermauss, The Emperor Waltz, Thunder and Lightening Polka, The Blue Danube and much more. Limited seating is available for this special event. Single guests and couples will both enjoy this evening.
In the spring, on Saturday, April 4, 2009, the Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra will present Mendelssohn’s “Symphony no.4” (the “Italian”), and Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto no. 4 in G Major, Op.58, featuring Natsuki Fukasawa on piano. The concert will be complete with a performance of Dvorak’s “‘New World’ Symphony.
“Great Treasures From the Opera” will round out the season in the Jill Solberg Performing Arts Theater with pieces by Verdi, Gounod, Puccini, Massenet, Rossini, and others. The orchestra is pleased to announce the soloists for this performance: Maureen Mette, soprano, Brielle Morgan, mezzo-soprano, Jaeho Lee, tenor, and Stephen Janzen, baritone. The performance date for “Great Treasures From the Opera” will be Saturday, May 23, 2009.
All evening concerts begin at 7:30 pm at the Jill Solberg Theater for the Performing Arts at Folsom High School. Doors open at 6:30 pm. “A Romantic Night in Old Vienna’ will be a special Valentine’s Day event, and held at the Folsom Community Center.
