Stix: Where Family Kitchen Traditions Fuse With Greek Culinary Invention

A unique and delightfully surprising fusion of traditional Mediterranean kitchen recipes from the old country with a generous sprinkle of Greek culinary contemporary imagination, is to be found at the Stix Grill Restaurant in New York City. A welcoming and leisurely oasis in the heart of bustling midtown, Stix is impressively high on quality and amazingly low on prices.

Enhancing their cuisine from the family kitchens they grew up around, Stix creator/owner Stathis Antonakopoulos and executive chef Nikolaos Stavrakakis combine those vintage dishes with organic and farm fresh imported ingredients. Resulting in spectacular menu selections entirely original in creation and taste. Including among an enormous array of dining discoveries, gems like apple mint and lime lentil salad dressing; main dishes served exclusively on sticks such as free-range chicken marinated over honey-mustard and thyme; and Greek yogurt by the scoop with a choice of twenty toppings ranging from spiced carrot-butternut squash marmalade, to strawberry-vanilla black pepper jam.

Stathis’ cooking concepts derive from Socratic philosophy, and what he characterizes as ‘giving birth to an answer’ and the ‘idea of a new man.’ And Chef Nikolaos with his exceedingly fertile culinary imagination will readily add to that his own inspiration gleaned from Picasso, that ‘I dream what I paint and I paint what I dream.’ Of course substituting his cooking, for paint.

For those who live in the Big Apple or are dropping by for a visit, Stix is located at 112 East 23rd Street near Park Avenue. Tel: 212-6736666. Stathis and Nikolaos are also planning a cookbook featuring their one of a kind culinary arts, in the near future.
