NCIS: Los Angeles S2 DVD Review

After its breakout freshman year, NCIS: Los Angeles starts to find its own identity in season two that has become equally more successful than the first with the Office of Special Projects (OSP) now divided into three teams:

Team 1: Bro-mance co-leaders G. Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and Sam Hanna (LL Cool J)

Team 2: Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) and LAPD liason officer Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), the new Tony/Ziva (or Tony/Cate?) of NCIS

Team 3: Eric Beale (Barrett Foa) and Nell Jones (Renee Felice Smith), surveillance and tech experts

The team’s operational psychologist Nate Getz (Peter Cambor) was put on recurring status this season, as he was quietly sent overseas to fulfill his dream of being an NCIS agent. With the guidance and support of their ops manager Hetty (Linda Hunt), the OSP continues to tackle undercover missions of global terrorism in the City of Angels and around the world.

Highlights of this sophomore year includes the two-part “Absolution” and “Deliverance”, as the team seeks a book containing privileged information that could be a threat to both national security and the entire intelligence community.

Like its predecessor, NCIS: Los Angeles earned its highest ratings in “Disorder” with Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: The Next Generation) as guest star and director with Kensi bonding with a Navy intelligence officer suffering from PTSD, a situation that hits her too close to home.

The season finale returns to the arc of Callen’s mysterious past, and Hetty could hold the key to the answers he’s been looking for – leading both of them to make decisions that could affect the future of the OSP.

NCIS: Los Angeles‘ second season is now available on DVD; season three premieres September 20 at 9p on CBS.
