Arts Express: Colombian Director Carlos Osuna Talks Fat, Bald, Short Man

**Fat, Bald, Short Man [(Gordo, Calvo Y Bajito): Colombian filmmaker Carlos Osuna discusses his Animated satire, touching on men as negative objects of desire; animation as a cinematic vehicle to explore the inner life of a character; cultural perceptions of physical destiny; and the workplace as metaphorical dysfunctional family hell. Also, what Osuna’s problematic protagonist Antonio might think of Occupy Wall Street in Bogota.

In Carlos Osuna’s animated feature film, Fat, Bald, Short Man, the prospects for Antonio, a lonely middle-aged notary, unexpectedly change after he joins a self-improvement group. The premiere screening is being presented as a collaboration of Global Film Initiative, Cinema Tropical and The Museum of Modern Art. This film series is part of Global Lens 2012, and is being followed by a national tour in over fifty cities in the U.S. and Canada

This project has been conceived to encourage filmmaking in countries with emerging film communities. Now on its ninth season, Global Lens 2012 is presenting ten films from Albania, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Iran, Iraq, Mexico, Morocco, Rwanda and Turkey. Accomplished, entertaining, and thought-provoking, the films are deeply rooted in the social and political realities of the countries where their talented and resourceful makers live and set their stories. The series is being presented by The Museum of Modern Art with the attendance of some filmmakers.

The Global Film Initiative is a U.S.-based not-for-profit organization specializing in the support of independent film from Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. Founded in 2002 to promote cross-cultural understanding through the language of cinema, the Initiative awards numerous grants to deserving filmmakers from around the world each year, and supports a touring film series entitled Global Lens.
