24: Redemption DVD Review

The following takes place at Newsblaze (NB). Events occur in real time.

24: Redemption is the middle ground between the end of season six and the start of the long-awaited seventh season, which airs January on FOX. Redemption is from 3 – 5 p.m., where Jack Bauer has spend the last several months in Africa. He found a renewed sense of purpose in helping the children of an American school run by his old friend and comrade Carl Benton (Robert Carlyle) in Sengala.

However, the country is under attack by a warlord, who is seeking to recruit children as soldiers in his war against America to supposedly making them strong and declare their country’s independence. Now, it is up to Jack once again to protect the free world — only this time, save the children, who are the future.

Yet, Jack is being subpoenaed by Washington to give a statement on his torture tactics on terrorist suspects. In true Bauer fashion, our hero responds: if they want him back in Washington, they have to come get him.

24: Redemption went out with talented veteran actors that includes Oscar-winner Jon Voight as a dubious businessman; Powers Boothe as current President Noah Daniels and Cherry Jones as President-elect Alison Taylor.

The film does live up to the title, for it is about redemption for the sins of season six that started out strong, but was so-so later on. Most of all, it is about the redemption of Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland), a deeply, flawed tragic hero who is also a weary warrior looking to lay down his arms. He continues to search for everlasting peace away from the violence and conflicts of a world that he has seen and known too much of. Yet, when push comes to shove, Jack Bauer is the one man that can be counted on when needed to make the wrong things right.

Extras of 24: Redemption includes a 17-minute sneak peek of season seven.

24: Redemption is now available on DVD.
