BIG BUDGET FILMS

Jackass 3-D (R for male nudity, profanity, extremely crude humor and dangerous stunts) Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O and the rest of the fearless, slaphappy stuntmen return for another round of jaw-dropping, death-defying feats, this time in 3-D.

Red (PG-13 for intense action sequences and brief profanity) Comical screen adaptation of the DC Comics series about a retired CIA agent (Bruce Willis) who reassembles his old team (Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich) after learning that there’s an assassin on the loose intent on harming him and his woman (Mary-Louise Parker). With Karl Urban, Rebecca Pidgeon and Emily Kuroda.

INDEPENDENT & FOREIGN FILMS

Bitter Feast (Unrated) Culinary horror comedy about a celebrity chef (James LeGros) quest for revenge on the internet restaurant critic (Joshua Leonard) who sabotaged his TV career by trashing his cooking on a blog. Cast includes Mario Batali, Paula El Sherif, Graham Reznick and Owen and Tobias Campbell.

Carlos (Unrated) Bloody bio-pic recounting the cowardly exploits of Ilich Ramirez Sanchez (Edgar Ramirez), aka Carlos the Jackal, the notorious terrorist responsible for masterminding an international crime spree during the early Seventies. (In French, Arabic, Spanish, German and English)

Carmo, Hit the Road (Unrated) Romance drama, set in Brazil, revolving around the unlikely cross-country trip undertaken by a handicapped smuggler (Fele Martinez) and the beautiful stranger (Mariana Loureiro) who rescues him from bandits. (In Portuguese and Spanish with subtitles)

Conviction (R for profanity and violent images) Hilary Swank stars in this bio-pic recounting the case of Betty Anne Waters, a single-mom and high school dropout who got a GED, and college and law degrees in order to clear the name of her innocent brother (Sam Rockwell) who had been unfairly convicted of murder. With Minnie Driver, and Owen and Tobias Campbell.

Down Terrace (R for violence, drug use and pervasive profanity) Mafia comedy about a recently-paroled father (Robert Hill) and son (Robin Hill) kingpins of a tight-knit crime syndicate who become obsessed with finding the snitch responsible for sending them up the river. Cast includes Julia Deakin, Sara Dee and Mark Kempner.

Norah’s Will (Unrated) Bittersweet love story, set in Mexico, about a man (Fernando Lujan) asked by his rabbi (Max Kerlow) to decide whether to bury his manipulative ex-wife (Silvia Mariscal) the same day she commits suicide or to wait several days until the end of the Passover season. (In Spanish with subtitles)

N-Secure (R for profanity, sexuality and brief violence) Major murder, mayhem and manipulation abound in this melodrama of Shakespearean proportions revolving around a guy (Cordell Moore) whose fall from grace leads to a series of troubled romantic relationships. Ensemble cast includes Essence Atkins, Tempestt Bledsoe, Lamman Rucker, BernNadette Stanis and Elise Neal.

Samson and Delilah (Unrated) Aborigine romance drama, with Biblical implications, about a latter-day Samson (Rowan McNamara) and Delilah’s (Marissa Gibson) perilous trek across the Australian Outback in the wake of a tragedy which forced them to flee their isolated hometown.

Urville (Unrated) Atlantis-inspired mockumentary follows intrepid investigators in search of the City of Urville, a fabled, futuristic Utopia rumored to exist somewhere in France. (In French with subtitles)

Vision (Unrated) Medieval bio-pic revisits the life and times of Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179), an iconoclastic Catholic nun whose feminist ideas flew in the face of the Church’s patriarchal conventions. Starring Barbara Sukowa as the controversial visionary. (In German and Latin with subtitles)
