Arts Express: Interview With A Drugstore Cowboy, Kelly Lynch On The Line

Arts Express: There’s the War On Drugs, and then there was Drugstore Cowboy. Gus Van Sant’s 1989 irreverent instant classic shoot ’em up – in a very different sense – told its tale from the junkie’s inebriated point of view. And starred Kelly Lynch as Matt Dylan’s romantic partner in crime.

Lynch, who was originally discovered before her career in an elevator, later turned down the starring role in Basic Instinct, which then went to Sharon Stone. And she’ll tell Arts Express why.

The actress who favors offbeat characters in films, currently appears in Passion Play with Mickey Rourke and Megan Fox – another movie about drugs, along with dreams, jazz and death. And she likewise declined the starring role in Passion Play for a small part instead. Even though she was apparently the designated muse and creative driving force for the writer/director – her husband, Mitch Glazer.
