Brangelina Stuns World in Pitt-Jolie Split
The world was shocked by the latest news that Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Joilie are ending their marriage, ending the popular “Brangelina” tandem.
The news made headlines around the world and stirred speculation about the cause of the marriage breaking down.
CNN reports say Jolie made the move and filed for divorce paperwork Monday through her lawyer Laura Wasser.
The grounds for the divorce cited “irreconcilable differences.”
The actress and director asked for some personal property and physical custody of their children.
Speculation Behind the Split
Many speculated that Brad Pitt had an affair with his Allied co-star Marion Cotillard. Reports stirred in the internet and social media that Jolie hired a private investigator to probe the alleged affair.
However, Cotillard denied the allegations and defended her strong relationship with Guilluame Canet. The French actress said, “As this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up. Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need,” referring to French actor Guillaume Canet.
Other speculation pointed to Brad Pitt being abusive on a private plane last week relating to the actor’s treatment of his 15-year-old son Maddox. The probe for this allegation is underway as the FBI continued to gather information before determining whether to open an investigation.
The Love Story
Pitt and Jolie fell in love on the set while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2004. The romance made headlines worldwide and stirred controversy as well because Pitt was married at that time, to Jennifer Aniston.
The couple known as “Brangelina” were together for 12 years. The Hollywood couple wed in August 2014 in a private ceremony at their French chateau in the Provence hamlet of Correns. Their children served as ring bearers and they threw flower petals.
Their six children include 15-year-old Maddox, 12-year-old Pax, 11-year-old Zahara, 10-year-old Shiloh, and 8-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Pitt, 52, was previously married to ‘Friends’ actress Jennifer Aniston. Jolie was previously married to Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.
