Beavis and Butt-Head Return to Kill Reality TV and Save MTV

After 13 long-awaited years, the show that epitomized the counterculture and brought mainstream popular culture fads to their ever-loving knees, is returning.

The boys known for being peckerwoods, dillholes, assmunches and asswipes are returning to save MTV from the monotony of mindless reality TV, contrived teen drama and a stunning lack of music videos.

Beavis and Butt-Head, the creation of venerable animator and director Mike Judge, are being brought back as a means for MTV to breathe a breath of fresh 90’s air back in to the sinking network. Sinking is a subjective term when describing MTV, but personally, MTV died when Beavis and Butt-Head died – unless of course, you’re a 16 year old reality TV junkie, then MTV is just right for you. Not for long – hopefully! The duo is back to make a laughingstock of your popular culture infatuations and addictions.

The dopey duo returns.

For the unenlightened, the premise of Beavis and Butt-Head is simple: Two dopey teenagers with no real goal or purpose in life get involved in many idiotic antics that usually, if not always, get them beaten up, hurt, or in trouble. They call each other various pejorative terms, eat nachos and comment on music videos on their filthy couch all day. When they aren’t doing any of this, they are finding a way to inadvertently destroy their workplace, Burger World or being a thorn in the sack of their high-strung and hypertensive principal. There is much more to the entity that is Beavis and Butt-Head, but they have Wikipedia for that.

Mike Judge has undoubtedly been busy and successful since the boys went off the air in 1997, going on to create the long-lived and loved animated TV show “King of the Hill.” He also wrote the cult movie classic “Office Space,” as well as directing and co-writing the 2006 satirical comedy film “Idiocracy.” Now, the animation legend is back to (hopefully) send shows such as “Laguna Beach” packing for other networks.

What made Beavis and Butt-Head so popular? For me, it was the blatant stupidity of the boys. They were imbeciles, make no mistake – but they were imbeciles in a clever manner. You just can’t help but laugh at their cretinous antics, and you can’t help but agree with many of their opinions on the world. What makes the return so exciting, other than the fact that I’m a huge fan, is the anticipation of seeing which cultural phenomena will be kicked in the nads, and in what manner.

It’s been 13 years, and the boys have a lot of puke-inducing cultural items to demean. Thirty episodes have been rumored to be in the works so far, and I can’t wait to see who or what Judge’s creation sticks its poison barbs into first.

“Hey Butt-Head! Check it out – that girl is hot! Ehheheh”

“Beavis, you dumbass, that’s not a girl – that’s Justin Bieber!”

“What about that girl, Butt-Head? She’s hot! Ehheheheh!”

“Beavis, you assmunch, that’s not a girl – that’s Lady Gaga!”
