American Screen Legend Ben Gazzara Remembered

The Hollywood Sentinel remembers today the life of outstanding actor Ben Gazzara, who has passed on Friday reportedly at his New York City home. Ben Gazzara was eighty one. The legendary independent stage and screen actor appeared in over a hundred films throughout his career that spanned over half a century.

In addition to many films and television, Bruce Edwin states that Ben Gazzzara’s biggest contribution to film was through his work with auteur director John Cassavetes. Film producer and talent manager Bruce Edwin states, “Opening Night” and “The Killing of the Chinese Bookie” are masterpieces.

“The Killing of A Chinese Bookie” is one of the best films of all time, and in no small part to the masterful work by Mr. Ben Gazzara, who brought the craft of acting to its highest peak with his performaces. He was an indie legend and dynamic force of power on screen that will be sadly missed. His departure leaves a void that will not be filled, but the work he left us will thankfully never be forgotten.”

Ben Gazzara is survived by his wife Elke of three decades, daughter – Elizabeth, and son – Anthony.
