What Does It Take To Be A Successful Modern Entrepreneur?

It’s impossible to define success as an entrepreneur. Try as you may, you’ll never be able to develop a formula or rule for success. There are thousands of variables in play and they seemingly change from day to day. With that being said, there are a few different characteristics that tend to be present in today’s most successful entrepreneurs.

Let’s investigate some of these characteristics to get a better idea of what needs to be present in order to increase your chances of accomplishing specific goals.

1. Willing to be Candid

There’s so much inauthenticity in today’s business world that most people find candidness refreshing. Love him or hate him, this is why Donald Trump is one of two candidates for President of the United States. He speaks his mind and doesn’t care what others think.

In terms of entrepreneurship, being candid is also a differentiating factor. According to Tim Sykes, successful penny stock trader and blogger, it’s important that you remove the borders between yourself and your target market.

That’s exactly what he does when crafting content for his website:

“Failure after failure go undocumented,” Sykes says. “As a blogger it’s your duty to write about it. Every year I do a whole blog post on my biggest loss. No one else in finance does it.” Sykes’ openness is what allows him to produce millions in annual revenue from his website alone.

2. Have an Unquenchable Passion

Successful entrepreneurs are driven by much more than just power and money. In order to thrive, you must have an intense passion for what it is you’re doing. This passion is the only way to continue working hard when times are tough.

The need for passion and excitement is something Jeff Boss, former Navy SEAL, understands better than anyone else. “I often get asked why I left the SEAL teams in 2013 after 13 glorious years,” he says. “My response is always the same: it got boring.” He admits this response confuses people, but reminds them that passion is key in any industry. It doesn’t matter if you’re jumping out of planes or sending emails.

3. Are Shameless Self-Promoters

In the business world, you have to shake off your personal tendencies and instead adopt the characteristics needed to be successful. So, even if you’re shy and humble in your personal life, you have to be a shameless self-promoter in your career.

It would be nice if people would naturally promote you, but this isn’t how it works. If you aren’t promoting yourself, nobody will. Be bold about what you bring to the table and always take a stand for yourself.

4. Utilize the Right Technologies

As soon as you start relying on yesterday’s technologies, you’ll become obsolete. Successful entrepreneurs understand that new technologies open the door to future success. While you may be comfortable with the resources you’re currently using, learn to recognize the importance of adopting a forward-thinking strategy. This will help you reach your goals much faster.

5. Surround Themselves with the Right People

It’s impossible to be successful without surrounding yourself with the right people. Think about the most successful quarterbacks in the NFL – Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Cam Newton, etc. – do you think they could win games without an offensive line or a set of skilled wide receivers? Not a chance. Well, the same is true in business. You need the right people on your side.

Study Your Peers

Want to be a successful modern entrepreneur? Well, it’s time to start studying your peers and contemporaries. The more you know about them, the better you’ll be able to identify common characteristics of success.
