Trademark Issued For ICE KEYTAG Protection Device

Tom Force, CEO of ICE KEYTAGS, has announced the company has received final U.S. Trademark certification for the word “I.C.E.” – as pertains to its use on plastic tags.

I.C.E. stands for “In Case of Emergency,” and is at the heart of the company’s mission. “We produce a variety of keytags for our customers,” Force says. “However, they all have the important I.C.E. logo on them, which alerts first responders to important information at the scene of an accident or other emergency.”

The trademark issuance comes nearly two years to the day after the passing of Force’s mother, which turned out to be the inspirational event in the creation of the ICE KEYTAG. His mother was rushed by ambulance to an Orlando, Florida, area hospital one morning, yet the next of kin were not notified of the event for nearly seven hours. By the time Force and other relatives reached the hospital, his mother had slipped into a coma from which she never recovered.

“We lost out on several hours where we could have said our last goodbyes,” he says. “It wasn’t the EMT’s fault that we didn’t get called. It’s a systemic problem, one that we are working hard to fix. This should never have to happen to another family again.”

The problem of next-of-kin notification is huge. According to a police spokesman quoted on the first responder website www.EMS1.com – it can take over 6 hours, and sometimes up to a day, to find someone.

“If you or someone you loved was in a serious accident tonight, how can you be sure you would be the one notified? Cell phones often don’t survive serious accidents, and if they do they are often lost in the passenger compartment or locked. Our simple, low tech solution, is the most effective.”

The I.C.E. protection system comprises a few simple pieces. A keytag with the highly visible “I.C.E” on it, on the back of which the tag holder has written in the phone number of the person they want called in the event they can’t do it themselves.

The second part is an EMS Information Form, which resides in the glovebox of the car. It can contain a wealth of potentially lifesaving information that can be used by first responders during the critical first hour after an accident.

The third piece is an optional decal that goes in the vehicle window to alert the first responders to the presence of the EMS Information Form in the glovebox.

“In this case, simplicity works best. Our materials are right there at the scene.”

To help spread the word about ICE KEYTAGS, the company partners with businesses all across the United States. In exchange for making these tags available in the local community, ICE KEYTAGS allows businesses to market themselves on the front of the tags.

Tom Force says, “We have businesses from the East coast all the way to Alaska involved in our program. We have a great group of sales reps who have embraced our mission, and who won’t stop until every driver in the country has one of our tags on their keyrings.”

The company has also just hired it’s first sales representative in Australia.

“Oh, by the way, we also can help you get your keys back if you lose them!” – Tom Force
