Leadership Tips To Motivate Employees

Being a team leader can be one of the most rewarding- and often challenging- experiences you could have. Watching employees grow and become better versions of who they were the first day they stepped into the office is a truly amazing experience. However, there is a huge difference between being a “boss” and being a team leader. Team leaders inspire their team to push themselves and strive for personal growth, and possess the ability to lead their team in a way that’s fair and understanding. Here are a few leadership tips businesses can use to motivate their employees.

Empower Their Team

One of the most important things to most employees is being able to feel empowered and confident in their roles at work. Oftentimes, employees can feel like their opinions don’t matter in the grand scheme of things, which can lead to depression and negative feelings towards work. As a team leader, it is important to make sure that employees feel empowered and capable of making their own decisions, as well as making sure those decisions have meaning. For example, consider including employees in more decision-making in the office. Making a team feel that their opinions matter is one of the easiest ways to motivate them to be the best they can be, and in turn the overall morale of your workplace will improve.

Practice Transparency

Being honest and upfront with employees is one of the most important things to do as a team leader. It was reported that a full quarter of employees admit to not being able to trust their employers, and a lack of transparency is often to blame. Nobody wants to have to worry about their jobs, which is why it’s so important that you practice being as open and honest with your team as you can. Not only will this help them feel at ease at work, but by openly communicating with the team, leaders will be able to get a better understanding of each employee’s individual strengths and weaknesses so that they can assess where each employee should be placed. Letting the team know that they can come to you about anything and you will listen to them in an open, non-judgemental way will put them at ease and make them feel that they are valuable to your company’s success.

Offer Perks & Incentives

Perks and incentives are fun ways to get a team excited about work, and also shows how much they’re appreciated! For in-office perks, consider offering free lunch once a week, or ordering healthy snacks for work to keep in the office. If pizza Fridays aren’t a thing, try hosting fun weekly potlucks, and challenge each team member to prepare a healthy dish to share with the office. Leaders can also host office outings, such as heading to a local park on a nice day, or even giving employees the choice to work remotely or from a coworking space on certain days. Providing employees with a fun work atmosphere is a great way to ensure that they feel comfortable and cared about, and will boost the morale of your workplace in the long run.
