The top Elite Connections matchmakers are thankful to have regular and new supporters that attend from throughout Los Angeles and as far away as New York every year to support them, and this very worthy cause.

The number of homeless youth in Los Angeles reportedly continues to rise, with numbers reportedly close to 9,000 homeless children, though many experts and shelters say the total is much higher, citing the county’s failing child welfare system as the main cause. Another problem, is that many shelters are only for adults 18 and over, or for kids with parents. Kids without parents on the streets often are turned away or have no where to go, and end up falling into the cracks. Sadly, many are runaways who are addicted to drugs or alcohol, or fall victim to child prostitution or trafficking.

Matchmakers Are Making Christmas Magic

Elite Connections commendable goal each year is to give the neediest children throughout Los Angeles the best Christmas they’ve ever had. Last year, the Los Angeles Matchmakers raised enough money to throw two lavish Christmas parties for over 160 children. They gave the children new clothes, shoes, coats, sleeping bags, backpacks and new cell phones. The phones had world coverage for 30 days, 911 service, music and cameras, so it was an awesome gift for homeless children who often lack the simple pleasures or technology that many kids and teens take for granted.

The parties were held at a church in Venice / Safe Place for Youth (Allison Hurst manager) and The Terrace Cafe, for a large group of South Central children. This was reportedly the first time that most of the kids had ever eaten in a restaurant or even seen the ocean. Elite Connections states that, “There were so many bags of goodies, we had to rent a truck to deliver it all! This year, with your help,” the ladies state, “We plan to do the same again, to great success.”

Putting a Smile on Children’s Faces

Elite Connections CEO Sherri Murphy adds, “Thanks to the success of ‘Party with a Purpose,’ we hope to once again make it a Christmas to remember for many kids who otherwise would not have much a a reason to smile.”

Star Miley Cyrus gave great attention to the homeless in America, particularly in Los Angeles, when she brought a homeless teen runaway to the VMA’s to accept her award for her, who gave a moving speech, as seen in that video clip here below. He stated; “I am accepting this award for the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now. I know this because I’m one of those people,” Helt told the shocked audience. “I’ve survived in shelters all over the city. I’ve cleaned your hotel rooms, I’ve been an extra in your movies, I’ve been an extra in your life. Although I’ve been invisible to you I have a lot of the same dreams that have brought me to you tonight.”
