Grand ‘Culver Hotel’ Celebrates 90th Anniversary

The Culver Hotel, in all it’s elegance, celebrated its 90th anniversary this month. The historical landmark, which was built by Harry Culver, the founding Father of Culver City in 1914, was the place for studio executives and stars to maintain a part time residency.

The Prohibition Ball, as it is appropriately called for the anniversary, featured vintage automobiles, a staff dressed in the era of Prohibition and various cocktails, complimented with delicious hors d’oeuvres.

Throughout the evening, there were 4 different bands playing, two of which had people dancing in the aisles. Sylvia and The Rhythm Boys presented tunes from the 20’s and Delta Force performed Dixieland selections.

Guests enjoyed the ambiance of the grand architecture of this grand hotel, along with historical videos of the screen era, not to mention the grand entrance of the evening, presenting a 5 foot cake which was rolled into the main lobby of the hotel. Guests surrounded the cake and were surprised when out popped a show girl. Maya Mallick, the owner of the hotel and Seth Horowitz, the General Manager then announced the presentation of a special chocolate cake with strawberry custard flavoring.

The Culver Hotel, today, is much like the original concept with beautiful furnishings. The rooms are furnished with the finest mattresses and amenities and are quite comfortable.

It is truly part of history and cinema, where Clark Gable, Greta Garbo Joan Crawford, Ronald Reagan, Buster Keaton and Red Skelton, who, it’s rumored, once owned the hotel, along with John Wayne, enjoyed residency there.

There are special celebrations we can all remember in our lifetime. The experience of The Prohibition Ball at The Culver Hotel is one of those special moments, which will be recorded in in it’s history.
