Ecuador-USA Business Matchmaking Event Secures Millions in Business Contracts

This week, the Trade Office of Ecuador in Los Angeles successfully launched their inaugural Ecuador-USA Business Matchmaking event, facilitating millions of dollars in trade contracts between Ecuadorean exporters and American importers.

Consul General of Ecuador in Los Angeles, Eddie Bedon, and Trade Commissioner, Dick Vega, welcomed 30 companies from Ecuador representing the Fishery, Edible Fruit and Nuts, Snacks and Apparel industries and over 80 America-based companies to participate in the one-day event, held at the Hyatt Regency Century City.

In 2011 and 2012, Ecuador became the largest Latin American import partner for the Port of Los Angeles, with trade in the Los Angeles customs district rocketing to a record $6.03 billion, a 159.76% jump from 2009.

Trade Commissioner for Ecuador in Los Angeles, Dick Vega commented on the event. “This Business Matchmaking gathering in Los Angeles is a key event in the promotion of Ecuadorian exports in both Los Angeles and the West Coast of the United States of America. We are delighted that it created a successful showcase for the benefits of a strong working relationship between Ecuador and the United States, moreover, we are incredibly pleased participants had such a successful day consolidating business that will benefit trade in both countries.”

A surprise for many of the participants was a visit from international movie star Billy Zane (Titanic, Zoolander) who stopped by to meet participants and founders of Ecua-Andino Hats, Alejandro Lecaro and Edgar Sanchez, who had created a special Montecristi hat for him. A friend of Ecuador, Mr. Zane took time to meet with all the participants in attendance.

The Trade Office of Ecuador in Los Angeles promotes Ecuadorian exports, attracts foreign direct investment and promotes tourism. The office works with companies large and small, that are interested in importing Ecuadorian products and services into the West Coast of the United States.
