Garrett Godwin interviews Flatlab via Email

Longtime friends Richard Carteau and Jerome Clipez are known around to clubs in Europe as the French duo Flatlab, who’s in the process of finishing their new record, On the Rocks.

Carteau recently stopped on The American Perspective with our very own Judyth Piazza, and returned from the holidays just in time to for my questions — calling it “a great experience”:

Garrett Godwin: Your music is Electro/Pop Punk/Club, and it continues to be more popular in Europe than here in America. Why do you think that is, still?

Flatlab: Sure, the Electro scene is much more developed over here for historical reasons. We think you’ll be more likely to get electro played in European clubs than the ones in the states where Hip-hop and Pop prevail. However we’ve seen some places, especially in NYC where you definitely get the vibes we have around here.

Flatlab: 2 guys, 2 flats, working like hell on their sounds. Flatlab came to us naturally.

Flatlab: This is something we’ve already heard, and it certainly shows that somehow we’ve done things the way we wanted to. We like the New-Wave and all the trashiness it brings.

Flatlab: There is nothing much to say really. “Thriller” remains unbeatable.

Flatlab: In the long run, that’s certainly something we’d like to do. Now, at this stage we’re focusing on making new tracks. Flatlab is at its early days and such references are way out of our league. But thanks for the thought.

Flatlab: For us the main difference would be in the Electro scene being way ahead in Europe. But the success of many artists such as Kanye West, Justice, MGMT, Ratatat show that the Electro audience is growing in the states.

Flatlab: Wow… Everything comes in due time. We give the priority to the tracks. All we can say is that the best is yet to come.

Flatlab: All our tracks and news on the band are on Myspace http://www.myspace.com/flatlabmusic and Facebook. The tracks are also and downloadable on Amazingtunes
