The gate stays open for Col. Shepperd and his team for the fourth season of Stargate Atlantis, all 20 episodes that are now available on DVD.
Premise
The spin-off of sci-fi’s long-running Stargate SG-1 follows an international expedition team exploring the City of the Ancients, exploring new worlds while defending the Pegasus Galaxy and Atlantis against the Wraith, the Genii, and now the Replicators.
The team consists of Col. John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), arrogant but brilliant Rodney McKay (David Hewlett), fierce warriors Teyla (Rachell Luttrell) and Ronon Dex (Jason Momoa, Baywatch).
Season of Change
As Atlantis’ fourth season began, the series must learn to survive without their parent show, as new allies like Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite, Firefly) come aboard and new allegiances with the Wraith being made.
Last season, the team faced the loss of fan favorite, Dr. Carson Beckett (Paul McGillion), and in the climatic finale, also face losing their leader, Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson). And thanks to support of devoted fans, one of them will rise from the Phoenix in season four.
This season starts with Atlantis regrouping after their last battle with the ever-growing Replicators, and Dr. Weir fighting for her life. The decision that they make will change Dr. Weir and Atlantis forever.
Being called the “Kelsey Grammar of sci-fi”, Amanda Tapping and Col. Samantha Carter comes to Atlantis as its new leader. This was an pivotal time for the series, as they proved they can hold their own, as Stargate Atlantis was named “Favorite Sci-Fi Show” by the 34th Annual People’s Choice Awards — beating Doctor Who and Battlestar Galatica.
However, this was a dark year for the team of Atlantis as Teyla will be expecting. Her real-life counterpart Luttrell was pregnant in real-life during this season, and gave birth to a son, Caden Dur, last October. Teyla’s child will be important to one of Atlantis‘ enemies, and if you’ve been watching all of season four up until the finale, then you’ll know it’s going to end on a cliff-hanger — until season five, which is already now.
