Quality Management Standard & Quality Technology Tools Campaign in Assam

Guwahati, August 1 : The Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER), in association with MSME-DI, Guwahati and Quality Council of India, New Delhi organized a day long Awareness campaign on Quality Management Standard & Quality Technology Tools. The aim of the campaign is to enhance the productivity and competitiveness as well as capacity building of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) and their collectives in the North Eastern Region. The venue for the campaign was the Hotel Gateway Grandeur, Guwahati on Friday.

The main objective of the Seminar was to support the sustainability and growth of MSEs by addressing common issues faced such as improvement of technology, skills and quality, to build capacity of MSEs for common supportive action. This is to be achieved through formation of self help groups, consortia, improving associations, to upgrade infrastructural facilities in the new/existing industrial areas/ clusters of MSEs, and to set up common facility centres. The common facility centres would be for testing, training centres, raw material depots, effluent treatment, complementing production processes, etc.

The seminar started with the welcoming of the Dignitaries by Indrani Chaudhury, Deputy Director General, FINER followed by the felicitation of the Guest & Dignitaries.

The Guest of Honor for the seminar was Prafulla K Saikia, Additional Director, DIC, Government of Assam.

R.S Joshi, Chairman, FINER, welcomed the gathering and Shirish Asthana, Dy. Director(IC), MSME-DI, Guwahati briefed about the Theme of the programme.

Amit Kr Jain, Vice-Chairman, FINER mentioned about the importance of organizing such seminar to enhance the productivity and competitiveness as well as capacity building of MSME Units in the NE Region.

The seminar was attended by different entrepreneurs of the NE Region and groups of people from NGO and Self help group and Media.

The seminar was divided into two sessions – The first session was the inaugural session which was done by Shri Prafulla Kr Saikia, Additional Director, DIC, and Government of Assam, Guest of Honor for the Seminar.

The second session was the technical session conducted by Ranjan Banerjee, Faculty, Quality Council of India, New Delhi ,where the entrepreneurs were briefed about the basics of Quality Concept, 7 Quality tools, Quality Management System-ISO 9001/ISO 1401/ISO 2200/ISO 2700 & Sector specific QMS, Safety Management System, 5S, Lean Management system and Quality Circle.

An interactive session was also conducted between the distinguished guest and the Entrepreneurs which turned out to be very successful.

The seminar ended with a vote of thanks for Pabitra Buragohain, Vice-Chairman & MSME Committee Chairman, FINER.
