5 Things to Add to Your Kitchen to Make It Unique

In many homes, the kitchen is a staple room for people to be moving in and out of during the day. Everyone has to eat at some point, right? This makes the kitchen a prime area for a home renovation project. If you see a room so often, eventually you’ll tire of it and want to shake things up. If you’ve reached that point with your kitchen, there are a wide variety of changes you can make, both functional and aesthetic, to make your kitchen more unique to your style.

Hidden Storage

A simple thing to add to your kitchen while also limiting the clutter that inevitably gathers is hidden storage throughout the space. This could mean investing in deeper drawers, so you have a place to store all of your pots and pans out of sight. It could also mean installing roll-out pantry shelves, so you never have to worry about losing something in the back corner of the bottom shelf. It all depends on what you and your kitchen need to function.

Get New Countertops

Your kitchen countertops are a staple in your kitchen and have the ability to make a statement when people walk in. There are a wide variety of kitchen countertops that you can choose from, each with their own look and functionality. If you cook in your kitchen often, having countertops that won’t be damaged by heat may be a priority, while you might want to choose a material that doesn’t stain easily if you’re more concerned about how your kitchen looks. Most materials come in a wide variety of colors and textures, so you can choose the one that fits the theme of your kitchen. You can make it stand out or blend in as much as you want it to.

Refresh Your Hardware

Even though it may not seem like it, your kitchen’s hardware makes a difference in how your kitchen looks overall. Switching out your sink’s faucet from a simple short, stainless steel spout to a larger, golden one makes a huge difference in how your kitchen looks. If your oven, refrigerator, or other appliances are on the older side, upgrading them to a newer model will both improve how your kitchen functions and how your kitchen looks.

You might also consider adding new hardware to your kitchen as well if you spend a lot of time cooking. Something like a pot filler may cost a decent amount of money to install, but it may be worth it if you’re going to use it often. Adding something like that makes your kitchen stand out from a general residential kitchen while also making it easier for you to use.

Choose New Lighting

Lighting is something that most people don’t consider when it comes to their kitchen. Fancy lighting fixtures are reserved for your dining room to impress the guests. However, lighting can make a difference in how your kitchen looks and feels. You can change the harsh, overhead lighting that your kitchen probably came with to a softer, more inviting light. Alternatively, you could install some lights under the cabinet to provide an additional source of light and ambiance when working in the kitchen.

Introduce Some Color

These days, most kitchens have the same, neutral color scheme. You may feel like if you’ve walked into one kitchen, you’ve probably walked into them all. If you want to change that, adding a pop of color to yours is the perfect way to. This could be something as simple as having brightly colored dish towels on display or something bolder like having all of your cabinets repainted. Whatever you choose, adding color can break up the monotony of a stereotypical kitchen.

When looking to make your kitchen unique, focus on making choices that are uniquely you. Some people get caught up in the “resale value” of their home even if they intend to live in their home for the next ten years. Invest in design choices that you’ll love to live with for years to come.
