Night Watch: RIYADH – The day after the strategic meeting between Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Saudi King Abdullah in Riyadh, the Lebanon Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri praised Iran’s role in resolving the crisis and Tehran’s extremely close cooperation with Riyadh. Berri actually stated the results of the meeting will actually be felt within 48 hrs and will end the political dispute that began December 1 with demonstrations led by Hezbollah, but who has been joined by a Sunni-Christian religious and nationalistic coalition. Lebanese who are secular also support the Iranian led effort to reduce France and the West’s role in Lebanon’s decision making. They have been convinced that in working with governments in West Asia (Middle East) Lebanon will be more independent. France created Lebanon in 1920, an event that was never accepted by Syria, causing Damascus to refuse official recognition. Paris has since used Lebanon’s presence as a way of retaining a lot of influence in regional events. That is why Paris actively supported the Rome Conference last summer, convened during the Israel/Hezbollah war, which resulted in the European forces, UNIFIL, now based in Lebanon through the United Nations. They are a military presence Tehran-Riyadh and other Islamic capitals, except Cairo, want to see destroyed. Egypt President Hosni Mubarak, due to his extreme hatred of Islamic radicalism, directed of course by Tehran, is the only Islamic head of state still closely working with the West.
Also in Riyadh, Saturday, was Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), who met with the Saudi National Security Council Secretary Prince Bandar Bin Sultan. I suspect that at their meeting there was more specific discussions on what is politely and diplomatically called “problems facing the Islamic world” in other words enemies that are about to be attacked more heavily, and that Tehran has completed its preparations to join the offensives. The House of Saud has been waiting for Tehran to be ready. Riyadh made a major commitment to the Jihad by purchasing, during the mid-1980s, the 50-60 CSS-2 missiles from Beijing. The ballistic missile has a 2,500 mile (4,000 km) range and can easily reach all of India and a lot of Europe and Russia. Tehran-Riyadh will be attacking the enemies that are in place and within range, U.S. forces in Iraq and especially the Persian Gulf, India in support of Pakistan and the Islamic people in Kashmir. Against Russia, Iran-Saudi Arabia will be acting through groups and countries they support in the Caucasus, especially Tbilisi, Georgia. Their joint effort will end the myth that the House of Saud is terrified of Tehran, a myth both Iran-Saudi Arabia cultivated in order to fool their enemies.
Another war with Israel will again take place this year and Iran will commit some units in support of Damascus and the Islamic radicals who have convinced themselves Israel is trying to destroy the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Tehran-Riyadh have openly encouraged fanatics to think that just to generate some more highly publicized action against Israel, yet Iran – Saudi Arabia know the next war against Israel will be their vehicle to finally remove the last, most embarrassing obstacle to Islamic unity, Egypt President Hosni Mubarak, who never forgave Islamic radicals for assassinating his predecessor Anwar al-Sadat in 1981, just two years after the Khomeini revolution. Tehran named a street after the assassin.
As Tehran-Riyadh prepare to celebrate all the new martyrs, as a result of World War III, I suspect the final planning for joint military cooperation against their enemies, in and out of West Asia, have been completed. If Nabih Berri is correct, and he is extremely well connected, then within 48 hrs, not to mention, the rest of March and this year will be extremely telling and not just concerning Lebanon.
