The definition of political insanity may rest in the actions of Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA). The ultra-liberal congresswoman is on a mission few are privy to. Her detractors call her “Mad Maxine,” which she wears with pride.
Waters, who represents the South Los Angeles district that includes Watts, has been a busy agitator to President Trump from his first day in office. Refuting any ideas about a fair trial from her unique accusations, the operative word to her is “impeachment.”
A month ago, she rallied the loudest of her Trump critics to protest and engage members of the president’s Cabinet whenever and wherever they encountered them. Some critics would argue this a call to actual physical violence, but in Mad Maxine’s world, it is perfectly legitimate.
She has been publicly scolded by her peers including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. No matter, Waters marches to a different drummer than her party’s leadership. It seems the roar of an angry crowd emboldens her.
The 80-year-old Waters began her mob rule crusade by publicly shaming Cabinet members June 19. An unruly gathering heckled secretary of U.S. Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen at a Mexican restaurant in downtown Washington. The result must have made Waters’ day as the secretary was literally forced to leave the restaurant.
These actions are gleefully reported in detail by her compatriots at CNN and MSNBC. Her gang of anarchists, or rebels without a clue, performed a similar incident against White House senior adviser Stephen Miller and another towards Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. This dangerous precedent can easily transform into violent and unruly riots where people could be seriously injured.
These activities are illegal. It is out and out harassment. They beg for civil and/or criminal action. But for the most part, the actions are condoned by the left and leave moderate Democrats fearful and silent because of possible political retribution.
This is not to dismiss the free speech aspect. Has the left pronounced that they are the guardians of what is free speech in this country? Will her next ploy be the use of the race card to stir the emotions originated ironically by African-American President Barack Obama?
One can see the opportunism by veterans of such venues as the Reverends Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. They would be right at home in that sort of political discourse. The same topics they preach including tolerance, compassion and inclusion wash away in any rally they lead.
Should violence erupt at the core of Waters’ so-called crusade against Trump, will she be held accountable? What about other innocent victims she has chosen as political scapegoats in her hate extravaganza?
