Crossfire War: Bechtel Denies Military Base Construction in Iran after Gulf War

Night Watch: SAN FRANCISO/FLOSSMOOR, IL - A spokesman for Bechtel Group, the construction/engineering concern headquarted in San Francisco, today called Mr. Willard Payne of Night Watch Information Service/International Affairs, based in Flossmoor, IL, and requested he no longer mention Bechtel Group being invited to Iran the day after the Gulf War ended in 1991, as shown on CNN, Bechtel’s London branch office in Hyde Park.

Mr.Payne, of Night Watch operates his Crossfire War site and one of its most consistent and important themes is the impact Tehran has exerted on London-Washington’s decision making through Bechtel. The Hyde Park office was used to evade the U.S. economic embargo against Iran and that is the real reason Saddam Hussein was not removed that year. When the network of bases was completed, 12 years later, Saddam was then removed.

The spokeman stated that I may have confused my CNN announcement with another news report that mentioned Bechtel was indeed contracted to put out fires in Kuwaiti oil fields set by retreating Iraqi units. He added that Bechtel had not been involved in work in Iran since the overthrow of the Shah in 1979 and he even denied Bechtel has an office in Hyde Park.

I thanked him for his call and said I would put his denial on the site.

Last year I checked Bechtel.com. The site was constructed in the year 2000 and had a picture of the London branch office and the address of the Paris office no. 38 Rue Bassano. I knew the site had to be updated because I walked by the Paris branch in July 2002 and the building at no. 38 was completely vacant. Today when I checked Bechtel.com the site had indeed been updated this year and though they have three offices in Britain none in Hyde Park and the Paris office is no longer listed.

There is one other source to the arrangement with Iran and I mentioned it in my most extensive article, "Crossfire War: Egypt after Nasser-Confronting Iran and the Jihad." I mention that when the Gulf War was ending Dr. Henry Kissinger was on the Sunday Morning news talk show "This Week With David Brinkley". He mentioned that he was worried about a deal that could cause a worse war a few years later. He and his hosts tried to laugh about it but the laughter was extremely nervous. Tehran’s foreign policy was no mystery and just two years later Iran attacked the World Trade Center, February 1993.

Tehran’s announcement of its foreign policy intentions.
