The citizens of Ecuador today celebrated their 202nd anniversary of independence.
US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking in Washington, DC, extended the congratulations of President Obama and the people of the United States, to the people of Ecuador on their National Day.
Ms. Clinton said the the United States and Ecuador have stood together on behalf of freedom and democracy around the world. Both countries have a long standing commitment to equality and prosperity.
She highlighted that both countries are partnering on behalf of a number of regional and international issues.

“As you celebrate this special day with family, friends and loved ones, and reflect on your rich history, know that the United States wishes the people of Ecuador a safe and prosperous year to come.” -Ms. Clinton
According to Conservation International, Ecuador is one of 17 megadiverse countries in the world. It has the most biodiversity per square kilometer of any nation.
