Scott Philip Brown elected to be Senator for Massachussetts, after the death of Teddy Kennedy, and served from February 4, 2010 to January 3, 2013. He lost his seat to democrat Elizabeth Warren, and has been working in private enterprise for the past year. In addition, he has been working at Fox News as a guest commentator.
He moved from Massachusetts to New Hampshire, and on Friday he said he has formed a committee to explore running for U.S. Senate in his new home state.
If he does decide to run, he will be up against a first term incumbent, Democrat Jeanne Shaheen.
After making the announcement, Brown called Fox to resign from his guest commentator position. That contract only started a month ago.
Fox News Channel promptly issued a statement explaining the decision to terminate their relationship with Brown. Bill Shine, Fox executive vice president of programming, said Brown’s “intention to form an exploratory committee to run for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire,” automatically disqualified him to remain as a “fair and balanced” commentator.
Brown’s announcement now provides yet another state in play for an additional Republican senate seat. Republicans are already mounting serious challenges to Democratic incumbents in nine states, and lead in three other states where Democrats are retiring, according to The Washington Post.
Approval came quickly from Senate Republicans.
Brown must have made a good impression while he was in Washington D.C. Several Senate Republicans approved of the prospect of him returning to Washington.
Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain told ABC News, “I’m always a great admirer of Scott. He’s a great friend and I hope he runs.”
“He’s an outstanding candidate. I loved serving with him while he was here. He’s a guy that needs to be in public service,” Republican Tennessee Senator Bob Corker told ABC News.
Before standing against Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, a democrat, in the 2010 special election to succeed U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy, Brown served as a member of the Massachusetts General Court, from 1998 to 2004 in the State House of Representatives and then between 2004 and 2010 in the State Senate.
New Hampshire is one of the smallest states in the Union. It is so small that a St Patrick’s Day fundraiser, saw Brown, his two republican challengers and Jeanne Shaheen, the Democrat incumbent all meet.
