Singer Michael Peterson Supports Veterans At American Legion National Convention

Country star Michael Peterson joins some of the nation’s most distinguished military personnel, veterans, and other prominent guests in support of veterans and our armed forces at the 2012 American Legion National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Prestigious guests at past conventions have included House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Department of Defense Secretary Robert Gates, and the President of the United States, Barack Obama.

The American Legion is an organization that originally charted in congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. With a focus on veterans, service-members and communities, they currently have 2.4 million members in 14,000 posts worldwide.

Chosen by the current American Legion National Commander, Peterson will be performing at the “Commander’s Banquet,” a sold-out black tie dinner which will be held on August 28, 2012 during the national convention.

Best known by country music fans for his million-selling Billboard hits *”Drink, Swear, Steal & Lie”* and *”From Here To Eternity,” *Peterson is beloved by veterans around the world for his tireless support of those who have served in uniform and their families. With 9 trips and over 100 concert performances in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2007, Peterson received the prestigious “Spirit of Hope Award” from the USO and the U.S. Army in 2010.

A member of the Sons of the American Legion, he has served since 2007 as National Spokesman for the American Legion’s “American Legacy Scholarship” helping raise millions of dollars to ensure a college education for children of the fallen. In 2011, he was the sole recipient of the American Legion’s National Educator of the Year award for his empowering “TAG You’re It!” assembly programs for high school students, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary’s highest honor awarded to civilians: the “Public Spirit Award.”

Peterson’s August 28th performance will feature songs from his upcoming album “We are Veterans.” Peterson expressed great excitement for his upcoming project, stating “As a nation, we have popular anthems honoring the various branches of military service and traditional patriotic favorite like “God Bless America” and “America, the Beautiful”; but there are few, if any, collections like this – with songs specifically recognizing the ongoing significance of the American veteran. This is presented to honor them and their families.”

Produced by Tate Music Group, “We Are Veterans,” an enhanced CD project, will be available in early 2013 through distributors nationwide and from the music label at www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore, or by visiting Itunes or amazon.com.
