CAMP LIBERTY, Iraq – As time passes in the military, there will always be a need for change. It is the responsibility of the Soldiers to cross-train each other when new equipment and new ways have been introduced.
An incoming unit received a tour Jan. 27 of the new mine resistant ambush protected heavily armored ground ambulance used by the 890th Engineer Battalion, from Gulfport, Miss.
Sgt. Maj. Antez Gilbert, a native of Atlanta, Ga., with 1st Calvary Division’s Surgeon Office, stopped by with several other Soldiers to see the new vehicles currently being used in Iraq. Gilbert is part of the division’s advanced party who will take control of Multi-National Division – Baghdad in February.

Spc. Xylon Morgan, a native of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Staff Sgt. Jemond Petersen, a native of Vancleave, Miss., demonstrated how the modern medical vehicles are used and the special features that have been incorporated to make treating injured more convenient.
These vehicles are utilized with a surgeon accompanying the mission. The vehicle has the capability of becoming a Class 3 rolling medical facility. Morgan explained the vehicle to the incoming unit’s personnel.
“The advanced party had a lot of questions, but answers were quickly given,” said Morgan. “The incoming unit wanted to see the medical capabilities and advances that have been made. Basically, we’re just using modified versions of the mine resistant ambush protected vehicle and structuring them to our needs. All in all, Sgt. Maj. Gilbert seemed pretty pleased, and I hope our demonstration was helpful.”
The advanced party was impressed with the additions to the vehicle.
“These new vehicles are great!” said Gilbert. “They have come a long way-it’s remarkable!”
One of the demonstrators was pleased with the day’s events.
“It brings great pleasure to be chosen to show the newest generation of military medical vehicles. By choosing us to exhibit the vehicles, demonstrates the confidence that our upper echelon has in the knowledge of the 890th Engineer Battalion Aid station,” said Peterson.
