Podcast Movement 2016

In Chicago, Podcast Movement 2016 will address the practice and field of podcasting, defined as the creation of a digital media file that can be an episodic series of audio, video, digital radio, PDF, or ePub files, subscribed to and downloaded manually or automatically through web syndication, or which can be live streamed online to a computer or mobile device. The practice of podcasting seems to have had its beginnings in the early 2000’s as digital broadband gained strength.

The conference will run five tracks: creation, technical, industry, marketing, monetization. During Podcast Movement 2016, the attendees will have the opportunity to participate in their choice of over 80 breakout sessions and panels, including sessions on the Technical Track, Creators Track, Business Track, Industry Track, the best way to craft a story or conduct an interview and more.

Keynote speakers for PM16 will include: Alex Blumberg, CEO and cofounder of Gimlet Media; Anna Sale, managing editor of Death, Sex and Money, a WNYC interview show; Glynn Washington, host and executive producer of Snap Judgment radio show; Heben Nigatu, a senior editor at BuzzFeed and co-host of BuzzFeed’s podcast Another Round; filmmaker and actor Kevin Smith, co-founder of the Smodcast Podcast network with multiple shows, including Smodcast, Fatman on Batman and Hollywood Babble-on; Tracy Clayton, staff writer at the news and entertainment website BuzzFeed.com, and is also a contributor at PostBourgie.comx. PM16 will even have some “unofficial community meet ups” to attend. Oman Studio beer party on July 5, WrestleZone Radio One Year Anniversary Party and Stage Show on opening day, July 6, Meet the NPR Content Team and Golden Spiral Media Community Meet Up on July 7, Side Hustle Nation Meetup on July 8 (closing date) are just some of these unofficial meetups that will occur at PM16.

Podcaster and Comedian Colt Cabana will join forces with The Second City’s Maria Randazzo to host the 2nd Annual Academy of Podcasters Awards (2016 AofP Awards), honoring podcasters recognized for their achievements and spotlighting the industry’s emerging talent on the way up. The ceremony will be live in Chicago on July 6, the night prior to the official open of Podcast Movement 2016. This year, Colt Cabana will be joined by first-year cohost Maria Randazzo, a Chicago-based comedian and a member of The Second City Touring Company. Colt Cabana is returning for the second year in a row as AofP host, and has been entertaining crowds around the world as a professional wrestler for over 14 Years. He can consistently be seen wrestling in Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, Mexico and all over the United States.

Vietnam International Telefilm Exhibition

Vietnam International Exhibition on Film and Television Technology – Telefilm – was established in 2013. Hosted by Vietnam Television (VTV), it is organized by Television Advertising and Service Centre (TVAd) and Adpex Joint Stock Company (ADPEX JSC) and has become the first specializing exhibition of the television industry in Vietnam. Held annually, the venue is alternated between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

This Viet TV convention, which lasts July 13-15, will encompass Television stations that include VTV, Television and broadcasting stations of cities and provinces of Vietnam, station affiliates, Television film studios, foreign countries and territories of various fields in television industry, television content services, value-added and support services in the field of the film and television technology, television technology, equipment, facilities, software and television engineering, technology, management practice, training, research and publishers.

Telefilm organizers anticipate drawing an audience composed of Content operators, providers of value-added and support services and products in the field of film and television technology, leaders in business, distributors of equipment, technology, software, world and region television operators and medias, television affiliates, provincial televisions and broadcasting stations, state agencies, research centers, training, management units, the association in the field of television and providers of other relevant services. Vietnam Television, or VTV, is the national television broadcaster of Vietnam. Prior to VTV, the first television broadcast in Vietnam was in 1966 when the United States set up two channels, one in Vietnamese and one in English, in Saigon for the Republic of Vietnam. The network operated until the fall of Saigon. VTV was established with technical assistance and training from Cuba on 6 September 1970, in Hanoi, as a department of VOV. VTV’s regional broadcasting centres are located in Ho Chi Minh City, Huế, Da Nang, Phu Yen, Nha Trang, and Cần Thơ. Since 2003, most VTV channels have also been made available via satellite. In addition, VTV has also offered channels in the system of satellite television called VTVCab, including translated programs from Reuters, ESPN, Disney Channel, Discovery Channel, BBC in addition to original subscription service channels. VTV has its own film production company, the Vietnam Television Film Centre, or VFC, which makes made-for-television movies and miniseries.

2016 Broadcast and Media Technology Expo

All India Broadcast Manufacturers and Distributors Association is hosting the 2016 Broadcast and Media Technology Expo in Chennai, a two day event opening July 15 in Chennai. This event showcases latest equipment and technology related to radio and TV broadcasting from Media & Advertising industry.

The All India Broadcast Manufacturers and Distributors Association, AIBMDA, considers itself an information resource to the broadcast equipment and broadcast software industry in India. Among its many agendas, it will convey to engineers and other broadcast professionals, the latest developments in the broadcasting sector through a full program of conferences, seminars, exhibitions and road shows. For the first time in this year 2016, a one-day conference will be held concurrently with the exhibition.

Indian broadcast market projections and tracking have indicated that the South Indian market for TV, Film and Radio is expected to grow faster than the overall Indian market over the next four years. This is the main reason why Broadcast & Media Technology is being held in Chennai.

Comic-Con 2016 is held in San Diego

This marks the 47th year for the Comic-Con International show in San Diego, making it the country’s longest continuously-run comics and pop culture arts convention. July 20 is planned as a preview night only for the five day event. Comic-Con International is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to creating awareness of, and appreciation for, comics and related popular art forms, primarily through the presentation of conventions and events that celebrate the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture. These are the areas to consider along which Comic-Con 2016 will be broken down: Special Guests, Anime, Art Show, Autographs, Children’s Film Festival, Films, Games, Masquerade, Portfolio Review, Artists’ Alley, Fan Tables, overall Exhibit Hall. Certain of these events are quintessential highlights.

Comic-Con conducts Portfolio Review sessions with attending companies that include comic publishers, movie and TV studios, videogame companies, and others. While the sessions may not always result in job offers, they are certain to offer honest and professional appraisal of the portfolio from seasoned industry insiders. Recommended formats to submit are 6-10 pages of best sequential storytelling. And located in the Sails Pavilion upstairs at the Convention Center, the Art Show contains original works for sale by both amateurs and professionals. It also displays the nominated books and comics for this year’s Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards and houses a special exhibit devoted to members of the Will Eisner Hall of Fame. Through portraying characters, creating moods, projecting stories with bits of drama, comedy, lightsaber battles, even some song and dance, the Masquerade event offers strong proof it is not just another costume contest or fashion show. The large elevated stage this event is mostly cast on has theater-style lighting, changing backdrops, and four large high-definition video screens providing close-up views gathered by multiple cameras. An audience of 3,900 fills the San Diego Convention Center’s Ballroom 20, and an overflow audience of over 2,000 more people watch the show on large projection screens in the nearby Sails Pavilion and other ballrooms. It is free to participate in, or just be in the audience for anyone with a Comic-Con 4-day or Saturday badge.

Lollapalooza

Situated within Chicago’s Grant Park, giving it access to 115 acres of space between Downtown Chicago and Lake Michigan, Lollapalooza was created in 1991 by Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for his band. Lollapalooza is the very anticipated annual music festival featuring alternative rock, heavy metal, punk rock and hip hop bands, dance and comedy performances, and craft booths. The Box Office is just north of the Main Entrance at S. Michigan Avenue and E. Van Buren Street. Responsible for introducing and popularizing some of the big musical names, this year’s lineup will include: Red Hot Chili Peppers, G=Eazy, Jane’s Addiction. RadioHead, Flosstradamus, ZHU, Alessia Cara, The Struts, Flatbush Zombies, Panama Wedding, Skizzy Mars, Lucy Dacus, Potty Mouth, Ellie Goulding and so many others. Lollapalooza’s 2016 Official Poster was designed by Frank Kozik, best known as creative director of Kidrobot and creator of the Labbit toy.

This year, to help keep the party going, Official 2016 Lollapalooza Aftershows are planned for designated venues around Chicago. From Metro to House of Blues and Aragon, these listening rooms will host Lolla after-parties from the festival’s open to closing, this year from July 28-31. And in news unrelated to the Chicago 2016 event, the first-ever, Lollapalooza Colombia, has announced their 2016 Lineup featuring, Lana Del Rey, Disclosure, Wiz Khalifa, The Chainsmokers, City and Colour, Nicky Romero, Arbol De Ojos and others. Lollapalooza Columbia will be staged at Parque Simón Bolívar in Bogotá this September 17-18. Colombia will become the fourth South American Lollapalooza destination after Santiago, Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo. And Lollapalooza Berlin is coming to Treptower Park, Berlin on September 10-11, 2016, with a lineup that will feature Odessa, New Order, Bilderbuch, G-Eazy, Matoma, Dubioza Kolektiv and others.

Added attractions and accommodations at Lollapalooza will include: an EDM DJ finalist spin-off, the Kidzapalooza festival to enjoy family-friendly music, the Art Market at Green Street, with items that might include organic apparel, fair trade goods, handmade posters and vintage housewife, the Toyota Music tent, the Samsung Galaxy Experience, to interact with the latest Samsung Galaxy devices, Samsung Milk Music and Samsung+. No selfie stick, the Sprint “Connections Pavilion” for free WiFi, free charging stations for smartphones and a chance to win two on stage viewing passes to watch favorite performers live at the Sprint Stage. There is also the CamelBak filling statins supplying freshly filtered water to all festival attendees. How do bands get booked for Lollapalooza? For unsigned bands, Lollapalooza works with Sonicbids in the Last Band Standing contest that lets fans pick an unsigned band to play at the festival.

Broadcast Today

London Film and Comic Con

While San Diego Comic Con gets an early start in July, across the pond, Showmasters London Film and Comic Con will run a similar format to its US counterpart from July 29-31. London Film and Comic Con will bring out some of the public’s favorite personalities from TV, Film and Comics as well as a full program of activities including photo shoots, panels, autograph sessions and exhibit floor stalls full of TV and Film memorabilia to browse. Television and film guest appearances will be made by performers of popular series, including, Star Wars, professional wrestling, Penny Dreadful, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, The Vampire Diaries, Red Dwarf, Shaun of the Dead, Thunderbirds and others. Planned photo shoot sessions will enable guests to pose with notable performers of their favorite TV or film series. Currently, Jeremy Renner, Famke Janssen, Rutger Hauer, Jack Gleeson and others are set for appearances.

Organizationally, London Film and Comic Con will operate with three distinct Zones: Unplugged Gaming Zone, The Comic Zone, The Cosplay Zone. The Unplugged Gaming Zone will be focused on bringing tabletop gaming to a wider audience and and deploy a demonstration team willing to help newcomers find their type of game, as well as help board gaming enthusiasts discover new gaming activity. The Comic Zone will allow its participants to meet pros consisting of writers and artists from around the world, collect rare issues and even take part in master classes among other activities. There will be portfolio reviews, so if you are a comic book artist you can even get your portfolio critiqued by one of the US or UK creators in attendance. And you might be able to sell your own comics if you are already producing one.

London Film and Comic Con’s Cosplay Zone is specially presented by Dark Cleo Productions, and has programmed in workshops, stage shows, award winning Cosplay Guests and a Cosplay Masquerade, the Showmasters Cosplay Zone. The Delorean Time Machine will return to London Film and Comic Con this July giving visitors the chance to capture with their imaginations their own moment in time with this famous car, so modified by the character of Doc Brown in the popular movie series. The Delorean will be at the event for all three days, with photos being taken of guests in the drivers seat, right behind the steering wheel.
