Did you know that 80 million tourists visit Florida annually, and more than 1,000 people move to the state each day? With over one million registered boats in Florida, and 1/2 a million more boats from other states that also utilize Florida’s waterways, there is a real concern for the well-being of the public, manatees, and other aquatic wildlife. The more educated the boating public can be before they go out on the waterways, the better for all. Boat traffic can double or even triple on busy holiday weekends in the summer. Speedboat collisions and propeller maiming are the major cause for manatee deaths.
