Luann de Lesseps, a star on “The Real Housewives of New York City,” opened up about her marriage to Tom D’Agostino Jr. to Andy Cohen on Bravo. De Lesseps was happily married to D’Agostino, she said. The happy marriage quickly turned sour, according to her account following her first time seeing the show.
“I didn’t see all of these red flags. So it was hurtful,” she said.
Cohen quickly interrupted her, stating that many of De Lesseps’ cast members tried to warn her that her husband was overly flirtatious. She quickly replied back, stating that “it’s different when you see it on the show.”
She stated that she had “blinders” on, which quickly came off when she saw the show from the viewers’ standpoints. She tried to make things work with her husband, according to her interview, but she said that her husband’s flirting just didn’t stop.
She told Cohen that it got to the point where she finally said: “I can’t do this anymore.” She said that she doesn’t think D’Agostino could give up his life as a bachelor to provide a married life like she had expected.
The former countess recounts the event that led to her asking for a divorce from her husband. “It was the weekend before the reunion. Tom went out and he called up an old girlfriend and they met up with a group of people. And I didn’t know about it – I found out about it the next day in the press.”
The marriage was short-lived, lasting only seven months. De Lesseps announced that the couple was splitting on August 3. The short marriage is still in the divorce process. D’Agostino is the heir of the D’Agostino Supermarket company, which has been around since 1932.
“When two people decide to divorce, one life must be divided into two. During that process many important decisions regarding property division, child custody and spousal and child support must be made,” states Allison Maxim.
The short length of the marriage will work in Tom’s favor.
Sonja Morgan, another star of The Real Housewives of New York, also dated Agostino. In an interview with US Magazine, she stated that the businessman “isn’t the marrying type.” She continues “you party with him, he takes your friends out. He’s the guy buying, not a marriage guy, I didn’t think.”
Morgan states that Tom was her drinking partner.
Morgan spoke of De Lesseps, stating, “It’s amazing, that girl bounces. She is so resilient and she puts on a proud face and moved on already, I guess.”
