The new Type 00 electric concept car demonstrates the Jaguar reimagined approach to body design and interior architecture. At the same time, some technical characteristics of the production model based on the concept car, which will appear at the end of next year, have already been announced. The industry insiders from the Indianapolis car dealership, Indy Auto Man, offer an overview of the novelty.
General Insights
- The two zeros in the car designation have a hidden meaning: the first symbolizes the absence of harmful emissions, and the second cements the status of Type 00 as Jaguar’s new stage in the company’s evolution. Despite the electric powertrain, Type 00 has a fairly traditional silhouette with a large bonnet and a wide rear overhang. The designers believe this approach will make the production model stand out from all other modern electric vehicles.
- In addition to its unusual design, the Jaguar Type 00 features innovations at the intersection of style and technology. For example, brass-colored inserts on the front fenders hide parking cameras behind them. Ultra-thin lighting is integrated into the horizontal grille at the stern. The luggage compartment door is deliberately devoid of glazing, but a transparent panel in the roof compensates for this to some extent.
- The company stated that the concept is based on the latest platform, specially developed for relaunching the Jaguar model line. The characteristics of Type 00 are not named, but the production model, which will already have four doors, and will be able to travel up to 480 miles without recharging.
New concept exterior
The concept showcases a revised approach to design for the British car brand with 90 years of history. It sets the tone for its new range of electric cars, which will hit showrooms in 2026. The size, proportions, and, above all, the design style of the concept coupe are supposed to be very close to the Jaguar’s first next-generation production car: a four-door super-GT.
The Type 00 is a huge two-door vehicle with an overall profile that recalls the 1948 Alfa 6C 2500 Competizione coupe. It has a very long bonnet, despite being an electric car, huge gull-wing doors that stretch almost to the rear wheels, and a sharply raked rear end. The Type 00 is angular. The concept is the result of an exhaustive process that led designers to create 13 full-size models. The concept suggests the first production model to be a low, lithe machine in old Jaguar castings.
All-new interior
Unlike the exterior, the impact the Type 00’s cabin will have on the production cars in 2026 is still unclear. Inside, the concept is a handsome, cream-colored two-seater coupe that eschews leather in favor of modern, eco-friendly textiles. It has smoothly designed bucket seats constructed to avoid visible seams. There is also real stone veneer on the center console and a brass bar running the length of the cabin. The controls and instruments are comprehensive but severely understated. The door releases are in the console next to the panoramic roof.
Prototypes of the production electric car have already been tested. There is aboudt a year left before the premiere of the commercial model, but it will go on sale in early 2026. Later, it should be joined by a crossover and a sedan, also electric.
Copy Nothing
Jaguar has always been associated with a strict image: respectable owners dressed in classic clothes, sporty silhouettes of cars appropriate both on a golf course and at the walls of Buckingham Palace. It is a brand with a heritage based on elegance and prestige. With a new round of interest in old money styles, such a brand does not seem to have the task of establishing contact with the younger generation. However, Jaguar turns to radical transformation.
When a brand, especially an iconic one, decides to rebrand, it enters a battlefield. To protect itself from caustic comments and maintain contact with the audience (and their willingness to make financial investments), big brands do everything slowly and carefully. Jaguar, otherwise, “ripped off the band-aid” of the boring image. “Copy nothing” – even yourself.
The new concept car, Type 00, is inspired by the iconic E-Type of the 1960s – a car so beautiful it got its place in the Museum of Modern Art.
The new Jaguar is presented as a car for rich people who lack time, for those who see their car not just as a means of transport but as an extension of their identity. However, analysts doubt that Jaguar will be able to find a buyer. The price of future models, exceeding 120 thousand dollars, does not look convincing to either millionaires or the middle class. And true fans of the brand would rather buy a classic used Jaguar than a unique concept car. In other words, Jaguar has found itself in an in-between zone where it is easy to get lost.
