Three Reasons to Promote From Within

Managers and CEOs knows how important the rest of a team is to the success of the organization. Staff support the company, perform its essential functions and ensure clients and customers are satisfied. A strong foundation of support keeps operations running smoothly, and it requires more than just good training to make this happen. Another important part of running the company is carefully choosing who is placed in leadership roles. Fill the most important positions with professionals who are dedicated, reliable and invested in the success of the company. Where can such people be found?

Rather than looking outside the company, consider looking internally. It might be more difficult to promote employees than it would be to simply hire an outside candidate, but promoting employees from within does not have to be a complex process. In fact, there are many reasons why it is the easiest and most lucrative option. Consider the following three benefits of promoting internal staff.

See A Track Record of Success

When an outside candidate interviews for a leadership position, their accomplishments might be impressive on paper, but how they will perform on a day-to-day basis in the organization? Existing staff, on the other hand, have been under watchful eyes for years. Some organizations have even taken advantage of office security cameras for management control reasons, meaning even when managers weren’t there, they were still able to observe employee work habits via the business security camera remote viewing options. Those employees working hard and producing great work – whether or not they know they are being watched – are the ones to move into leadership. This same vantage point is not possible with employees hired from outside the company.

Rely On Existing Knowledge

Consider the fact that external employees will not join the team with the existing knowledge base, and experience with the company, that internal employees possess. Somebody who has been at the company for years should be well-versed in the lingo, protocols, and procedures of the business. Training a new supervisor, on the other hand, demands bringing them up to speed quickly on both company operating procedures as well as the company culture. Needless to say, this is a challenge, and it is typically far more cost-effective to simply promote an employee from within who has already been immersed and is thriving in the environment an outside candidate has not even experienced.

Incentivize Other Employees

Yet another important reason to promote from within is the effect this practice can have on a team’s overall morale. If employees know that they may be promoted, they are more likely to produce quality work and dedicate themselves to the company. Remember, existing staff has seen the methods used in the past to keep morale high, they know what works and what misses the mark. With guidance, a newly promoted manager chosen from within can improve the way the company goes about incentivizing staff to work hard and quickly become an effective asset when it comes to maintaining a positive and productive work environment.

There are many benefits when promoting from within rather than outsourcing supervisory positions. Consider all of the aforementioned reasons, and when it is time to fill a leadership position, consider internal staff rather than professionals who are not familiar with the company.
