Johnny Rodriguez Draws A Full House At The Stagecoach

The Stagecoach Ballroom is one of the oldest nightclubs in the state of Texas and from the looks of things, one of the best.

Several eager others and I waited together in the chill Saturday evening before the doors opened November 18th, to get a glimpse of Texas’s own country legend, Johnny Rodriguez.

Once inside, it was the bird’s eye view of what a good old fashioned Texas Honky Tonk is all about. The sort of place you could either make a movie or lose your heart in. One thing was certain, I was no where but Texas with cowboy hats sitting atop some of the handsomest heads to be found.

The dance floor at the Stagecoach was built to accommodate quite a large number of dancers and believe me, Saturday night required every inch of it.

I was a first timer at the ballroom but my friend stated that she and her husband had been regulars there for some time and were non slackers on the dance floor. We were seated by the door where the people poured in steadily.

The first band on stage warmed up with an old George Jones tune, “The Race Is On.” I didn’t exactly catch the singers name but I knew from recent experience that it wasn’t Tyler Wade.

By the time Johnny Rodriguez took the reins, it was standing room only, literally. I had to stretch a little to see over the crowd and onto the stage.

After the stretch, from where I was, it was more than obvious that the love for what Johnny Rodriguez does still lights the fire that burns within his eyes.

For a man who had most of his hits in the 70’s, he can still pack a house and put on quite a show.

The Stagecoach Ballroom is a family owned and operated establishment located at 2516 E. Belknap in Ft. Worth, Texas.

It boasts a very large dance floor and is available for private parties.
