Woman Gang Raped: One Man Arrested, Four Absconded Near Diphu Town

Diphu July 8: Kuki Women’s Association (KWA) in a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong submitted yesterday, demanded the arrest of four men involved in the gang rape of a married woman. This had been going on for a period of two months in Bagmari No-1 village of Diphu town.

The KWA alleged that the woman was forcefully raped by her husband and his 4 partners in crime in a particular house in the village. Later, the woman by some means managed to escape from their clutch and informed the police about the matter.

On the basis of her complaint, police arrested her husband Mangsemlal alias Sempu Lenthng but the other four men are still free.

The KWA indicated in the memo that Roson Teron of Rongcheklam village, Hunmoni Roy of Baghmari, Bimal Bey of police reserve locality, and another unidentified person were all involved in the rape case. The memo also stated that the men were still roaming free, in spite of a case being filed in Diphu police station by the victim.

The Kuki women’s body demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and requested government aid and protection for the victim, whose social and economic condition is very vulnerable.
