Village Headman Shot Dead

A government recognized village headman ( sarkari gaonbura) aged around 60 years was shot dead in Teron Gaon village by suspected Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger (KPLT) militants yesterday night around 9.00 PM.

The incident took place near Koilamati general area under Deothar police outpost of Bokajan subdivision; in the eastern part of Karbi Anglong.

According to police, the deceased Sarat Teron was the victim of suspicion of the militant organisation, who suspected him to be an informer to the security forces engaged in counter terrorism operations in that area.

“The son of the village headman is a member of the KLNLF (Karbi Longri N C Hills Liberation Front) outfit, which is under a ceasefire agreement with the government and a natural rival of the KPLT. Probably the assailants suspected the victim’s son to be a mole for the police” said a senior police officer overseeing the investigation of the incident.
