ULFA Member Killed in Assam Gun Battle

A hardcore cadre of the anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) was killed in a gun battle with security forces in Assam’s Tinisukia district on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.

The encounter took place at Bordumsa in the district on Saturday night where a militant group threw a grenade to patrolling troops.

“In the explosion, an Assam police constable was injured,” a top police official said.

Reports say, after the explosion, bullets were exchanged and a militant was killed on the spot,” the police official said.

The slain militant was identified as Diganta Gogoi and security forces recovered one AK-81 assult rifle, three magazines and 40 rounds of live ammunition in possession of him.

Meanwhile, top police official sources said the Paresh Baruah led ULFA had planned to trigger an explosion in Upper Assam.

“Militant groups had entered in Tinisukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar and Lakhimpur district from Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border,” the police source said.

Security has been tightened in the districts of Upper Assam after intelligence input.
