Top Militant Duo Arrested in Assam

Guwahati, April 23: Security forces apprehended two militants of the Barak Valley Plains Tribe Front (BVPTF) including the chairman of the outfit group in Assam’s Karimganj district on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Assam police and army had launched a search operation at Hranghkal basti under Ratabari police station in the district and nabbed the militant duo.

“Based on our specific information, we launched a search operation at the bordering area of Mizoram and Tripura, where the militant duo was hiding,” a police official said.

The nabbed militant duo were identified as Krishna Mohan Tripura, who is the chairman of the outfit group and hardcore cadre Sameer Tripura.

The BVPTF is active in Karimganj district, Barak Valley and some bordering areas of Mizoram and Tripura.

The outfit group have been involved in various kidnapping and extortion cases.
