Seven Militants Arrested in Assam-Arunachal Pradesh

A hardcore cadre of the anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) was killed in a gun battle with security forces at a border area of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh.

Sseven militants were nabbed including five United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) cadres on Sunday, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and Assam Rifles had launched a search operation at Nongtau area along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

“Based on intelligence report, when the security forces reached the dense forest area, the hiding militants fired and bullets were exchanged,” a police official said.

Security forces also nabbed seven militants and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions.

The arrested two anti-talk faction ULFA militants were identified as Mridul Moran and Gajen Khek.

Security forces recovered two 9mm pistols, one china made pistol, 14 rounds of live ammunitions, 5kg explosives in possession of them.

“Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom led ULFA and UPDF have jointly set up camps in Lohit district in Arunachal Pradesh,” a top police official said.

Meanwhile, police recovered a powerful IED in Udalguri district on Sunday.
