New Delhi: Senior Indian lawyer Prashant Bhushan, and close aide of anti corruption activist Anna Hazare, was beaten up by two men on Wednesday, in his chamber inside the Supreme Court here.

Initial Media reports said the two men, who claimed to have links with right-wing group Sri Ram Sene, barged into Bhushan’s chamber and were seen on TV slapping and kicking the senior lawyer.

One of the assailants, who was caught by other lawyers, was beaten up and handed over to the police.

“I tried explaining them my views but they attacked me suddenly,” he said.

Prashant Bhushan has confirmed lodging a First Information Report {FIR) with police.

Reacting to the incident, Kiran Bedi, another member of Team Anna, expressed shock and anger over the incident. Bedi said “The incident is absolutely shocking and shameful. I am very distressed.”

“We don’t know who they are and why they did this. They beat up an honest man who has spent his entire life fighting for the country. This shows the level of intolerance in the society,” she said while talking to an Indian news Channel.

Bhushan, while in Varanasi, about two weeks ago, had commented that a referendum was possible in Jammu & Kashmir.
