Rhino Horns Still Attracting Poachers: Assam Lost 41 Rhinos in 2013

Guwahati: Poachers killed another one horned rhino in Assam’s Manas National Park (MNP) on the last day of the year 2013, officials said on Wednesday.

In the year 2013, Assam lost 41 rhinos, which were poached in Kaziranga National Park, Pobitora wildlife sanctuary, Orang National Park and Manas National Park.

The incident took place inside the MNP on December 31, where poachers killed a male rhino and managed to flee with the horn.

“Forest guards found a dehorned bullet riddled rhino carcass inside the park,” a forest official said.

The rhino was transferred from Pobitora National Park to Manas in 2011.

According to reports of Assam state forest department, poachers killed 41 rhinos in the state in 2013.
