Guwahati: Unidentified armed militants abducted the General Manager (GM) of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) in the Bhalukpung border area of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh on September 21 evening, when the official came from Tawang to Guwahati, police said.
According to reports, a six member armed group abducted the NHPC official Anil Kumar Agarwal from Baromile area under Chariduar police station of Sonitpur district along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
The suspected militants left the driver and Tata Safari vehicle of the NHPC official, who worked on a project at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.
The driver of the abducted official said when they reached the border area around 6-15 pm, while travelling from Tawang to Guwahati, a six member armed group blocked the road and kidnapped the NHPC official.
“After the incident, I informed the Assam Rifles personnel and police,”
the driver said.
Police recovered a motorcycle from the area.
“We suspected that IK Sangbijit led National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants were involved in the abduction incident and they used the motor cycle,” a top police official said.
Police and army launched operation in the border area, to trace the abducted NHPC official.
There were no reports of a ransom demand by the militants so far.
