Maoist Terror Continues, Using Human Shields in Nepal

Maoists have continued to attack and terrorize the general people and the political activists despite the agreement between the Maoists and seven parties. The Maoist activists recently assaulted Khadga Prasad Luitel and UML activist, Paras Sharma in Ilam.

A group of Maoist activists led by their area in-charge, Gopi Khulal, assaulted these victims and also prohibited one of the victims, Paras Sharma from entering his own house. Today, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Pyar Jung Thapa said the King, people and Army “are capable to tackle the situation unitedly”.

Gen Thapa said this on an inspection visit of Butwal and Taulihawa where security forces repulsed Maoist attacks during the weekend.

He issued instructions to deployed security forces who were congratulated by the Army Chief.

Gen Thapa accused Maoists for using human shields during assaults on Butwal and Taulihawa in Kapilvasthu.
