Kashmir Shivers With Cold

Srinagar, Nov 27: Indian administered Kashmir continues to shiver with severe cold as the minimum temperature dipped further in the region with the summer capital recording the coldest night of the season.

“It was the coldest night of winter so far in Srinagar, the summer capital of Srinagar. The temperature in Srinagar, Pahalgam in South Kashmir and Leh tourist resort fell further and was recorded – 1, – 4 and -10.6 degree respectively,” a weather department official said.

He said Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir in south Kashmir recorded – 2 degree Celsius while Kokernag had – 0.7 degree this morning. “The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in North Kashmir recorded the minimum temperature of – 2 degree Celsius while some upper reaches in the area including Khilanmarg, Affarwat and Kongdori recorded the temperature between – 3 to – 5 degree celsius,” he said.

The official said the weather will remain dry during next 24 hours though the sky will remain cloudy during the day. “Open sky during the night could result in further drop in the minimum temperature. There would be snow or rain during the last week of November because of Western Disturbances (WD), entering the region after crossing Afghanistan and Pakistan from the Arabian Sea,” he added.

He also said it is expected that the region will witness a light to moderate snowfall in the first week of December.
