India Targets Generation of 100 GW of Solar Power By 2022: Piyush Goyal

Guwahati, April 10 : The Centre has set an ambitious target of generating 100,000 Megawatts (1 lakh MW) of solar power by 2022, Union Power, Coal, NRF minister Piyush Goyal said in Guwahati on Friday.

Addressing a press conference held in the capital city of Assam, after a two-day Conference of Power, Renewable Energy and Mines, the union minister said the government’s mission is to provide 24 hour power to every household.

“We look into more generation of renewable energy,” Goyal said.

Goyal also said the union government will build a 40 MW solar power plant in Assam, where the state government has agreed to allocate 400 bighas of land for the plant.

The government will restart construction work on the 2000 MW Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric project after the final report is received from the expert committee, Minister Goyal said.

“Centre will work with the government and the people, organizations of Assam to resolve all issues related to Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project in the best interest of all concerned,” Mr. Goyal said.

On Thursday, the union minister, speaking at the inaugural session of the Conference of Power, Renewable Energy and Mines held in Guwahati, said the Centre had decided to allocate Rs 10,000 cr for the power sector in the eight North East States, including Sikkim.

“The Union Government has undertaken initiatives in the NE region for speedy implementation of power projects and urging to the state governments to give their extend support for generating more power,” Goyal said.
