IED Blast Kills Three Militants in Assam

Three hardcore militants of United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) were killed in a powerful IED blast in Assam’s Goalpara district along the Meghalaya border on Friday morning, police said.

Assam Home Commissioner GD Tripathi said the incident occurred at Mongre village under Agia police station in the bordering district.

“The incident occurred when the ULFA (I) militants took shelter with an IED at a farm house of Malaijeet Rabha and suddenly the IED exploded and the militants were killed on the spot,” GD Tripathi said.

Two of the deceased militants were identified as Kanteswar Rabha alias Parama Asom and Akon Rabha.

The third militant has yet to be identified.

Security forces recovered a hand grenade, one pistol, and two magazines from the blast site.

Top police officials rushed to the spot and started the investigation.

“Ahead of Independence day celebration, the ULFA (I) militants had been trying to plant Iand ED targeting Guwahati city,” Goalpara SP Nitul Gogoi said.

Police said that security has been beefed up across the state, ahead of the Independence day celebrations.
