Governor of Assam Orders Inquiry Against Departments Under KAAC

Diphu – April 4: Governor of Assam P. B. Acharya has instructed the government of Assam to conduct a special inquiry to prove graft charges against the Agriculture and Irrigation department functioning under the administrative jurisdiction of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. The Governors ordered the inquiry based on various media reports alleging unprecedented sleaze in several departments controlled by KAAC. Recently certain organizations meet both Chief Minister of Assam and the Governor and urged them to conduct an inquiry in this two departments.

Mean while Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang discussed the matter with all the Executive Members of KAAC and higher officials; Ronghang himself began a field inquiry of ongoing schemes of various departments since yesterday. After making a shocking revelation on his visit to Matipung District Council Reserve Forest (DCRF) where large scale felling has taken place, the CEM ordered suspension of two Range Officers. In this particular patch of forest where clear felling has taken place the departmental officers like the DFO of West Division tried to convince the CEM that the forested area doesn’t come within the map of the forest.

In actuality the whole reserve forest part was handed over to the Forest department through a gazette notification in 1976.

Tuliram Ronghang left for Hamren subdivision to assess the progress of Irrigation schemes spread across the district; he met with the government officials in a review meeting at Hamren circuit house where he issued strict orders to the absentee departmental heads and other staff to remain present on duty and develop a work culture for speedy implementation of public welfare schemes.

A group of reporters and newspaper owners are touring with the CEM who is on the road inspecting progress of work across the district. The CEM also took stock of the poor road condition in Hamren and visited the tumbledown Hamren Civil Hospital, he also visited a few schools where either no students attend class or till today results of previous examinations have not been declared.

The CEM also vowed to revive all the non functional water supply schemes located in various places of Hamren subdivision.

Whatever the reason behind the whirlwind official tour of the CEM, he denied receiving any official communication from Dispur regarding an enquiry order of Chief Minister on the instruction of the Governor P. B. Acharya before leaving for Hamren yesterday.
