Eight Killed in Road Mishap in Assam

At least eight people were killed and nine others injured in two separate road mishaps in Assam and Meghalaya on Saturday, officials said.

Six people were killed and nine others injured when a Tata Sumo skidded off the road and fell down in a deep gorge at Sonapur in Meghalaya on Saturday evening.

“The car was traveling from Labrimbai in Meghalaya to Badarpur in Assam and skidded off from the road and fell down in about a 600 feet deep gorge,” an official said.

Rescue team recovered six bodies and nine injured persons from the accident, the official said.

Injured persons were rushed to nearest hospital.

In a separate incident, two youths travelling on a bike were killed when a speeding truck hit them at NH-37 near Jalukbari in Assam’s Guwahati city around 9-30 pm on Saturday.

The victims were identified as Nazrul Islam and Salma Begum.
