Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) Disbands After Signing Peace Pact

Guwahati, November 26: The militant group, Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel), which recently signed a peace pact with Union government and Assam state government was formally disbanded on Monday in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, officials said.

Jewel Garlosa led militant group disbanded as part of the tripartite Memorundam of Settlement (MoS).

During a function held at Haflong, district headquarters of Dima Hasao, the militant group formally disbanded and formed a NGO named DHD(J) Welfare Society.

“We want peace and development in the hill district,” Niranjan Hojai, the DHD(J) leader said.

The leaders of the disbanded militant group are likely to join in politics.

Hinted about joining in politics, Niranjan Hojai said, he will contest in the next district council election from Diyungbra constituency.

“At present, we have not decided to join in any existing political party or form a new political party,” Hojai said.

Meanwhile, DHD(J) did not invite the leaders of another faction group DHD(Nunisa) including its chairman Dilip Nunisa to the function.

A separate function will be arranged by the DHD(N) during mid December at Haflong.

“We will arrange a welcome home function at Haflong next month,” Dilip Nunisa said.

The Dimasa Accord was signed between DHD(J), DHD(N), Union government and Assam state government in New Delhi on October 8.
