Deadly Blast Kills Teenage Girl in Assam

Guwahati: A teenage girl was killed and 15 others injured in a powerful blast in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Tuesday evening, officials said.

According to reports, suspected militants had planted a crude bomb below a electric pole near the old railway station of busy Amolapatty area in Dibrugarh town.

“The explosion occurred around 5-10 pm, where 16 people including teenage girl and women were injured,” Dibrugarh district SP Rana Bhuyan said.

The injured persons were rushed to Assam Medical College hospital in Dibrugarh.

One of the injured persons is the 14 year old girl Purnima Rajak who succumbed to her injury at hospital.

Top police and army officials had rushed to explosion area and launched operation against suspected militants, who triggered the explosion.

United Liberation front of Asom (Independent) and Maoist are active in tea and oil rich upper Assam.

According to Assam government, suspected militants had triggered 20 explosion in the state in this year so far.
