Bus Service Opens for Guwahati-Dhaka Passengers

A new bus service from Guwahati in India, to Dhaka, Bangladesh was officially started on Wednesday.

Assam Public Works Department minister Ajanta Neog on Wednesday flagged off a trial run of a ASTC bus Service between Guwahati and Dhaka.

It is the third such initiative between India and Bangladesh since 1995 when Kolkata was connected for the first time and later Agartala connected in 2002.

Terming the day a memorable one, minister Neog said this route was functional before independence and now after 67 years as part of the “Look East Policy” of the Govt of India, this route opens for passenger movement again which will help promote trade and Commerce.

The flagging off Ceremony was also attended by senior officials from Bangladesh along with officials from Meghalaya & Assam.

The Bus will travel from Guwahati via Meghalaya through Dawki to Sylet enroute to Dhaka covering the 496 kilometre route.
